BASALT HIGH SCHOOL

“In every stage of life, it is so easy to get caught up in social pressures, especially in high school. It is so easy to put up a facade and pretend to be someone you’re not in order to fit in. Even when you know you are not being yourself your reality becomes the person you are not. I experienced the fear of not fitting in when I returned home to finish the school year after being away for seven months. After being back at Basalt, I realized this fear was completely irrelevant because all that really matters is that I am comfortable with myself and who I am. Not who anyone else wants or expects me to be.”

Bridges High School

“In the coming years, we are all going to have to learn to adapt to our “new normal” and be resilient in the face of these challenging times. These are two important things that my time at Bridges has taught me, and I’m sure my classmates have experienced these things as well. I have learned to not give up after the first try … teachers gave me a second chance when I made mistakes and that encouraged me to try harder and do better the next time.”

CARBONDALE MIDDLE SCHOOL

“One part of our school day that I miss is the bell. I always enjoyed learning the lyrics to songs , which gave me something to smile at in-between classes. Another part of the school routine I miss is the morning wait in the lobby, because you could always catch up with your friends before classes. Although I can see people on the computer during calls, we don’t have a lot of time to talk among ourselves.”

CRYSTAL RIVER ELEMENTARY

“We are wired to play together, help each other, and interact with each other. Without that, we are losing part of us, part of who we are. When we look back at this time, we might say, “Geez, how did we live like that?” But we did. Because we adapted to not seeing each other…We were stronger because we learned how to virtually interact with each other, we invented how to play 6 feet apart, but together.”

According to our tri-county data for CO’s newly established health indicators, the risk level is still too high to return to in-person learning: The Roaring Fork Schools will continue with distance learning through at least Oct 5. See the full announcement here:

Your decision not to open schools is based off of what data?? What are the new health indicators? We deserve transparency. Both Eagle and pitkin cty have some sort of in-person schooling. If this is a tri-county health Indicators then the decisions should be similar.

ROARING FORK HIGH SCHOOL

“This class has been through quite a lot. Three principals, two vice principals, six different counselors, plenty of teachers and classes shifting around and now a pandemic, but if anything, it’s made us better students and more proactive humans. Here, success wasn’t handed to us, we sought after it on our own, and we’re all the better for it. On the other hand, let’s give Roaring Fork some credit for what it does well, and there’s a whole lot. We have an incredible group of teachers, many of whom take the time to know their students personally and profoundly. My teachers have challenged me, forced me to think critically, and most importantly, shaped my character in ways few other people have.”

WALDORF SCHOOL ON THE ROARING FORK

“I miss shaking my teacher’s hand in the morning, playing with my friends at recess, and doing activities in person and not from a video. I miss just being with my classmates and friends. I miss so many things from school, but one of the things I miss the most is having the support of my friends in my class when I need it.”Abigail O’Keefe WSRF grade 4

COVID Camus Update: WSRF is open for on-campus learning this school year. Small Class sizes + large campus on 14 acres of wetlands = natural social distance.
