Legacy Dance Company
Bella Collier: mother of a two-year-old son. Owner, founder, and artistic director of a Glenwood Springs dance studio teaching ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acro and contemporary dance.
There is a saying in the dance world: “If you stumble, make it a part of the dance.”
I grew up dancing in the Roaring Fork Valley and was working as an instructor and director of the competitive dance team for the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts in 2017 when it “stumbled” and ultimately closed. My first thought – my students who worked hard to get to where they were. For many of them, dance was more than an after-school activity. It was their passion.
My mission became assuring they had a dance program.
So I found myself diving into dance studio ownership at the age of 23 in the midst of a community crisis. I started Legacy Dance Company from absolute scratch, with nothing but a $500 advance on my sister’s dance tuition from my parents and a devotion to the art form that has meant so much to me.
Later that year
My Dad was diagnosed with aggressive, terminal cancer, and my husband and I decided to start our family a little earlier than planned. I wanted my Dad to be a Grandpa and I wanted to bring some extra joy into his last years. I watched my Dad hold his Grandson for the first time. They became his best friend and partners in crime. And I get to remember Dad every time I look at my son’s smiling face. Mom and entrepreneur happened hand-in-hand; I was pregnant when we opened Legacy’s doors. Now, I get to wake up every morning and live my dream.
