MP MOMPRENEURS

MOUNTAIN PARENT’s annual Mother’s Day Tribute brings attention to local Mompreneurs. Mothers in our community who are leaders in their field. We asked for nominations. From more than 40 women, we selected six. This, a decision process that felt harder than perhaps any other choice we’ve made as a publication. We truly live in a place that attracts outstanding women! We asked each nominee to offer advice to other mothers seeking to birth a dream. Here we share the words and stories.

Mompreneur – Lakshmi

One need not practice yoga
to appreciate the deity Lakshmi.

She sits with peaceful strength in a small alcove at True Nature Healing Arts in Carbondale. Lakshmi seems comforting, perplexing, inspiring – a woman turned quietly inward while also responding powerfully to the outer world.

“Lakshmi is the Goddess of good fortune, fertility, prosperity, and joy,” Deva Shantay, co-creator of TNHA shares. “Her name means to know and understand your purpose.”

As it happens, each of the six Mompreneurs we feature in this year’s Mothers’ Day tribute spoke of Lakshmi without naming Her. For She embodies the owl’s ability to work and prevail in confusing times. She brings balance. Spiritual and material; activity and stillness.

It is a gift of True Nature that we found ourselves seeing these qualities in each of the women featured in our 2021 Mother’s Day Tribute. Each, a leader in her field. Each, raising children while giving birth to her own purpose.

Imagine the tranquility of an already-serene place. Imagine slowing down and breathing. Being present in conversation with women whom we invited, one-at-a-time, such as it is. We heard of their ideas, their concerns, their children, their plans, and here we share their stories in their own words. We surely felt the presence of the Goddess. She sat still and listened and so did we.
