C-19 & Local Swimming Pools

Six-Foot Staycation Six’ {2}

READY TO MAKE A SPLASH?

The cardboard canoe race during last year’s July 4th celebration at the Carbondale Pool seems like a moment from the distant past. COVID social distancing has accustomed us all to standing back, withholding hugs, avoiding the kind of rough-and-tumble play it takes to not only duct tape together a cardboard raft with your best buds but to also propel it across a pool, scissor kicking, laughing, crawling over each other to get to the finish line.

One silver lining – the above photo is entirely achievable again this summer as long as the kids onboard are siblings. Our community Recreation Departments are working diligently to find ways to say YES.

Rec Directors and their staff have worked with State and County officials to create operational plans so that several of our local swimming pools can welcome visitors. By respecting and supporting safety protocols, we can help assure that our recreational options remain open and available to all.

Here is a run-down of what you can expect, with links to landing pages for each of MOUNTAIN PARENT’s community rec partners, where you can find ongoing updates about specific events and programming.

SWIMMING BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

  • In order to maintain safe social distancing, local swimming pools are cutting occupancy caps by 50%.
  • Online reservations and prepayments are required so that everyone can have a chance to get in some “pool time.”
  • Lap Swimming is limited to one person per lane.
  • Open Swimming is divided into zones both in the water and poolside.
  • Changing rooms and bathrooms are limited to one person/ family at a time.
